The Bernett Group

Andy Hiller

Andy Hiller joined The Bernett Group as Managing Director following nearly 40 years as a political reporter and analyst. During his career, The Boston Globe wrote that he “helped redefine local TV political reporting with his take-no-prisoners style.”

Andy’s first journalism job was in Davenport, Iowa in 1971 as a reporter for the Times-Democrat newspaper. After moving to Atlanta, he reported from WRNG Radio (CBS) and then moved to television, at WAGA-TV (CBS). In Atlanta he covered then-Governor Jimmy Carter’s successful run for the White House.

In 1977, Andy was hired by WBZ-TV (NBC) in Boston to cover local, state, and national politics. After a brief stop in New York City as a political consultant, Andy returned to Boston and WHDH-TV (NBC) in 1993.

“The Hiller Instinct” – Andy’s reporting and analysis – was a featured segment on WHDH-TV for more than fifteen years. As political editor, he helped plan all election coverage, and managed the station’s polling. Andy has won an Emmy award for his political reporting, and was named Boston’s Best Reporter several times by Boston magazine.

He has appeared on CNN, MSNBC, and WGBH-TV, the Boston PBS affiliate.

Andy graduated from Beloit College and earned his M.P.A. from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, focusing on media and politics.
